Message From ECSS Chair 2015

On behalf of the Emmanuel College Students Society, Chair Greg Daly has graciously put forth a statement of solidarity in response to recent events in Ottawa.

Events of the past few days in Ottawa and the Province of Quebec call us to stand for peace.

We pray in solidarity with those who are coping with the death of loved ones.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of Corporal Nathan Cirillo and Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent.

We do not have full details of the events, but we are aware that some may use this time for their own purposes to undermine communities that comprise an integral part of our Canadian cultural mosaic.  Our Muslim brothers and sisters are a vibrant peace loving people.

It is a time for calm.

It is also a time to acknowledge the importance of inclusiveness.

Our world is interdependent. Words like ‘other’ or ‘someone else’ are not applicable. Nothing happens in isolation in this interdependent, interconnected world. Words like ‘common’ and ‘us’ are applicable. They help us to remember the intrinsic value of all people and the mutual goal of creating a common experience of peace, health, and justice. This is always the greater truth.

The Emmanuel College Student Society prays for compassion, hope and understanding.

We value our diverse learning environment at Emmanuel College and support all the members of our community.

As-salamu alaykum.
Gregory Daly
